“Our ambitious goal is to reach 8,000 MW by 2028 and 10,000 MW by 2030, which will allow Georgia to become a fully self-sufficient country in terms of electricity generation,” said Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, speaking at an event dedicated to Energy Workers’ Day.

As the head of government noted, achieving this goal requires the right policies and the implementation of large-scale projects, such as the Khudoni, Nenskra, and Namakhvani projects.

“In this regard, a major challenge for our country was economic sabotage. Various actors were involved in this economic sabotage. Among them, specific organizations financed from abroad directly carried out sabotage against our strategic and national interests, which cost our country quite dearly, including in a literal sense.

In the case of specific projects, the country had to compensate tens of millions of lari in losses precisely due to this economic sabotage. Unfortunately, at that time, the state did not have sufficient resources to counter such sabotage. However, today the state is strong enough to ensure the unhindered implementation of any projects, including large-scale ones, and this will definitely be guaranteed by the Government of Georgia,” the Prime Minister stated.
